Halloween Craft Project: Pumpkin Jar

I've been missing the time to be crafty with my girls. Between their school and our weekend activities, we've just not had time to sit down and make something fun. This morning as I was watching The Today Show, I saw this very cute idea. Neighbor Girl is here today, so I found the necessary supplies and had her make one. But it's definitely something I'm going to have to also do with my girls, even if we have to do it after Halloween.

You will need a glass jar of any shape or size with a lid, orange and brown paint (I used Crayola washable paint), and a black Sharpie (or electrical tape).

I used a small jar that I happened to have in my glass
recycling box. I don't usually save the lids, so it's a
small miracle I found a lid to fit the jar.
Begin by painting the INSIDE of the jar orange,
and paint the lid brown.
With a Sharpie, draw a jack-o-lantern face on the outside
of the jar. The Today Show also suggested cutting
eyes, nose, and mouth shapes from electrical tape
and adhering to the jar. I will probably do that when
I do this project later with my girls.
Add the lid. Ours is not quite dry, so the lid is not screwed
on for our photo op. Add a battery operated tea light
to make it glow.

It's super easy and super cute, and it can be used for decoration for years to come.

Craft Project: Hot Air Balloon

My daughter told me she wanted to have a hot air balloon for her Polly Pockets. So this is what we did. We made one for each daughter, plus one for the neighbor girl.
You will need a balloon, a cup, yarn, and tape.
Blow up the balloon.
Cut yarn into 3 equal pieces. Mine were about 14 inches.
Tape one end of each to the cup, leaving about
equal space between each.
Tape the other end of each piece of yarn to the balloon,
with equal space between each and trying to keep the yarn
as even as possible so the cup will hang straight.
Hot Air Balloon... for
Polly Pockets or whatever
small doll of their choosing.
